Description

Section G of the PCT runs 113.5 miles from Walker Pass on Highway 178 to Mt. Whitney. This section of trail ends at Mt. Whitney, which stands 14,491 feet high and is the highest point in the lower 48. The area around Whitney is all wilderness: this section of the route is very, very wild! Other important features include the South kern River and the Monache Meadows (which is the largest meadow in the Sierras).<br />

After leaving the town of Onyx, the trail passes Morris/Jenkins saddle; Jenkins/Ownes saddle; Joshua Tree Spring; Spanish Needle Creek; Canebrake Road; Fox Mill Spring; Spur ridge camp; Manter Creek; South Fork Kern River; Inyokern, CA; Kennedy Meadows Campground; Beck Meadows Trail 35E01; Deer Mountain's northern ridge; Monache meadows; Olancha Pass Trail; Death Canyon Creek; Diaz Creek; Mulkey Pass; Trail Pass Trail; Lone Pine, CA; Cottonwood Pass; Sequoia National Park; Siberian Pass/Rock Creek Trail; Rock Creek; Guyot Creek; Crabtree Meadow; and the John Muir Trail.
